Biosphere Nesting Boxes
The Biosphere Nesting Boxes illustrate how a biome relates to the life contained within it. The boxes depict (from largest to smallest):
the galaxy
the solar system
the biosphere (the earth)
the biome
ecosystem
populations of plant and animal species
individual plants or animals
organs and tissues of plants or animals
cells of plants or animals
atoms (picturing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen as the building blocks of life on earth)
Introduce this concept to elementary aged children to use as a research template for exploring different species in the context of their internal and external environments. Other research avenues include the various ecosystems that make up a biome.
